August 3, 2018Summer is one of the best times of year to break out the clubs and spend a day on the golf course. Golf is a big deal in South Carolina and the state is home to some of the country’s most legendary courses. Whether you’re just getting into the game, or you’ve been playing for a while, there are always new things for any level of golfer to learn.
Here are a few pro tips to keep your summer game fresh and maybe even actually get par this time!
Don’t Spill the Coffee!
This tip comes courtesy of pro golfer Zach Johnson and will help you with any slicing you may see on your shots. According to Zach, you should imagine there is a cup of coffee sitting on the knuckles of your leading hand. Your goal is to keep that cup of scalding hot coffee from spilling off your hand and onto your body. The way to do this is by keeping your leading arm as straight as possible so the coffee cup is as far away from your head as possible. Regardless of your swing style, keeping your leading arm straight will help stop that golf ball from slicing after contact!
Break Out the Yoga Mat
You may be thinking, “What the heck does yoga have to do with my golf swing?” but you heard us right! When golfing with correct form, your body uses a whole lot of core muscles to provide the snap necessary to drive that ball off the tee. Exercise styles like yoga and Pilates help strengthen your core muscles, as well as improving overall flexibility to help you add a few yards to your tee off.
Record Your Shot
A little self-reflection is the key to so many of life’s problems and your golf swing isn’t any different. Either setting up a camera or having a buddy record your swing so you can go back and watch it later can do wonders for your golf game. You can critique yourself and compare your form to that of other golfers and figure out what you need to change to get to the top of the leader-board.
Bring a Golf Cart
How could we call ourselves a golf cart dealership if we didn’t throw in some kind of plug for getting a golf cart? All jokes aside, utilizing a nice Club Car or E-Z-GO golf cart to carry you and your clubs from hole to hole can save a lot of energy and keep you fresh long after you’ve started the back 9. A golf cart can also provide some much-needed shade if you’re golfing on a hot and sunny South Carolina day!
We hope this advice helps you take your golfing game to the next level and if you notice an improvement, we’d love to hear about it!
